Artist's Comments

Fun fact I discovered this past week: the Commodore VIC-20 was originally going to be named the Vixen.

As another note, as well aware as I am that '80s pop culture and '80s electronics were around at the same time, it's still weird to me to see the two juxtaposed like this. (Granted, the VIC-20 did come out in 1980 and, thus, probably predates the "period" stuff I worked into this piece anyway.)

Huh. I figured that if any game system were called the Vixen, it would be from Atari, makers of the Lynx and the Jaguar. But Atari was strictly feline, I suppose.

I see that you draw anthros with shoes sometimes. That's fine by me.

The caption font works very well, it really makes the picture.

Thanks. We used to have a bunch of National Geographic magazines from the '80s at our school for use in photo collages, so I got a good idea what print ads from that period looked like (the license for Garamond Condensed must have gone on clearance in '79 or something ;)).

I like your 80's vixen. She looks cool in that outfit and funny pic too. :)

Ah, nice. You've done a good job of this ad. It even has that old-style "gradient" background. I think the dark blue background and white text make it look like an ad from the 1980-1990s. Interesting too that you would mention the history of the VIC-20's conceptual name, and use a fox to advertise it.

Good job. :iconcommodoreplz:

Yeah, we kept a collection of old National Geographics in our art room back in elementary school for collage projects, so I got a pretty good feel for old magazine ads. (Though in hindsight a star-filled, even darker background with white pinstripes would probably be more fitting for Commodore.)

Well this is something I never knew of, the Commodore (I've actually never heard of that comp) would have been named after a female fox.

Lol.

Wow, a cunning home computer. Doesn't sound like a good way to market a PC. Definately a bad idea. To me a "cunning" computer would be one full of ads and error messages, and documents suddenly disappearing. Imagine if the military bought a computer like that!
